Dear Friends,
Today, we’re continuing to ask you to help us grow in the areas where we see an urgent need and an opportunity to do more.
Our Economic Recovery & Community Lending campaign aims to help small businesses access the resources to rebuild. Here is what we hope to make possible with your help.
Help Families Rebuild Their Livelihoods
For a shopkeeper ready to reopen or a farmer ready to put land back into production, the obstacle may be access to capital, equipment, or a functioning market. People bring skills and determination to rebuilding their livelihoods; they need resources to put them to work.
MFA is raising funds to establish a revolving Economic Recovery Fund. We envision combining community-based lending with equipment, essential infrastructure, and market connections, focusing on women-led businesses and returning entrepreneurs who were previously displaced.
The work has not yet launched. Your donation helps lay the groundwork. Our aim is for future loan repayments to replenish the fund, allowing resources to support more businesses over time.
Strategic Analysis: "Credit Is Reconstruction Infrastructure"
In Credit Is Reconstruction Infrastructure: Lessons from the Region, Khalid Kabeer draws on his experience leading financial operations across the region to explain why access to capital and credit belongs at the beginning of recovery, with lending designed around local realities.
"Reconstruction cannot wait for centralized macro-agreements. When small businesses and household producers access manageable credit, local markets reactivate immediately—turning survival into dignified productivity."
Every dollar counts toward getting this work off the ground. Your support helps establish the revolving fund and build the resources small businesses need to take the next step. Please make a gift of any size to support economic recovery.
Thank you for helping shape what MFA can do next, and for standing with communities working to rebuild.
With gratitude,
Shadi Martini
