About This Project
Full rehabilitation of 115 war-damaged homes in rural Aleppo across six completed phases, enabling ~200 displaced families (~1,100 people) to return home with dignified shelter, off-grid solar power, and clean water.

Project Completion: Restoring Permanent Shelter
Safe, livable housing is the essential foundation for sustainable return and community recovery in Syria. Through the Ratyan Housing Rehabilitation Project in northern Aleppo countryside, the Multifaith Alliance (MFA) successfully rehabilitated 115 war-damaged homes across six structured operational phases. In addition, the local community and homeowners mobilized to repair 10 lightly damaged dwellings, bringing the total restored housing capacity in the town to 125 functional homes.

Key Operational Deliverables:
- Structural Integrity & Weatherproofing: Masonry blockwork, wall plastering, and concrete repairs to ensure buildings are structurally sound and weather-resistant.
- Security & Privacy: Sturdy exterior steel doors and interior wooden doors, paired with sealed windows, providing security and domestic privacy for women and girls.
- Decentralized Solar Power: Independent rooftop photovoltaic solar systems powering LED lighting and charging ports, enabling children to study comfortably after sunset.
- Hygienic WASH Facilities: Rooftop water storage tanks, private flush toilets, sinks, and insulated piping restoring sanitation and disease prevention.
The vast majority of returning households relocated directly from informal displacement camps, trading fragile nylon tents for permanent, dignified brick-and-mortar homes. This completion marks a major milestone in revitalizing the town of Ratyan and anchoring families securely in their native communities.
