Hatay University Hospital Critical Care & Diagnostic Recovery
Project Video
About This Project
Funded by a $460,000 JDC grant, restored critical care ventilators and advanced cardiac diagnostic capacity at Hatay Mustafa Kemal University Hospital serving 6.45M residents.
“Restoring advanced diagnostic and mechanical ventilation capabilities to Hatay's primary university hospital guarantees high-quality, free-of-charge care for millions across the earthquake-affected region.”
Post-Disaster Healthcare Recovery
As the primary tertiary referral center in Southern Türkiye, Hatay Mustafa Kemal University Hospital faced unprecedented clinical strain following the catastrophic February 2023 earthquakes. With over 42 regional health facilities damaged, the hospital became the indispensable anchor for trauma care, critical resuscitation, and specialized medicine.
Through a $460,000 grant from the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC Grant #25-18), Multifaith Alliance managed the end-to-end procurement, customs clearance, clinical installation, and commissioning of specialized life-support and cardiac telemetry systems, directly returning the hospital's intensive care and diagnostic wards to full operational capacity.
Clinical Impact & Slashed Wait Times
Prior to this intervention, extensive equipment damage had caused diagnostic backlogs to swell up to 10 days for cardiac consultations and intensive monitoring. The arrival of these high-precision EKG, Holter, and monitoring systems dramatically accelerated clinical workflows — slashing appointment wait times from 10 days to just 1 day — ensuring timely, life-saving interventions for low-income and displaced families receiving 100% free healthcare.
