We visited Omar Adnan Hamdo, a Syrian father who has carried the heavy burden of displacement for years. Escaping violence, his family moved from one fragile shelter to another, eventually taking refuge in the Maarat Misrin countryside of Idlib.

Determined to spare his children the harsh realities of camp life, Omar sought construction work across the border. The early months were brutal—days often passed without work or food—until he finally secured grueling labor laying heavy floor tiles.

The Injury That Changed Everything

Just as life began to stabilize, tragedy struck. A catastrophic fall on a construction site left Omar with a severe compound fracture in his leg. The injury permanently ended his ability to perform physical labor or support his family.
