A Cancer Survivor's Quiet Courage
Every dawn in Aleppo’s Al-Martini neighborhood, 60-year-old Uncle Jamal Al-Hayek steps out to earn an honest living. Diagnosed with aggressive retinal eye cancer years ago, Jamal underwent complex surgery that removed his eye to save his life.
Compounding his hardship, Jamal suffers from painful hip joint tendinitis, making every step agony. Yet he refuses to beg, insisting on working daily as an independent street sweeper and recycler pushing a heavy manual cart.
