“When a family can return home, a neighborhood — and a community — begin to recover.”

About This Campaign

Across Aleppo, thousands of homes still need basic repairs. Many families who have spent years in displacement camps are eager to rebuild their lives but lack the resources to make their houses safe again.

MFA rehabilitates damaged homes through local contractors and community committees, restoring the structural, electrical, water, and sanitation systems. In Ratyan, in the northern Aleppo countryside, this model has already returned over 80 families (with 89 completed homes), with rehabilitation ongoing and expanding to reach more communities.

Return is the foundation of Syria's recovery, and housing is the foundation of return. Without a livable home, returnees remain in limbo, unable to re-enter the workforce, enroll children in school, or reinvest in their community.

MFA works with local contractors and community committees to assess each property and carry out urgent repairs, prioritizing families currently living in tents or damaged shelters. Work proceeds in managed phases of 20–26 homes at a time, so implementation and quality monitoring stay rigorous as the program scales. Every completed home and each returning family helps restore the neighborhood life that makes return viable for the next.

Our Approach

The scope of work for each home covers the full path to habitability:

Key Operational Pillars:

  • Structural: Plastering, concrete work, and block work to make the home sound and weathertight.
  • Carpentry: Installation of doors and PVC windows to restore security and privacy.
  • Electrical: Wiring, lighting, sockets, and solar power installations that provide reliable, decentralized energy.
  • Water and sanitation: Water tanks, taps, toilets, and sinks that restore safe, dignified living conditions.

Impact & Results

Aleppo Countryside In Ratyan, MFA's phased rehabilitation has completed 89 homes as of July 2026, returning over 80 families to their neighborhood after years in displacement camps, with additional phases underway.

Beyond individual households, the work is restoring normal neighborhood life and strengthening social stability, demonstrating that return is possible and creating momentum for recovery across the Aleppo countryside. Housing rehabilitation is one pillar of MFA's integrated Syria programming, which has reached 564,000 people with health, water, energy, and food support through trusted local networks.
